Fleet Star 2 - 3 Crichton
Last league game ends like many others, Fleet produce a performance but come away with a defeat !
Fleet were at home for their last league game of season 2013-14 and welcomed Crichton. The game started well with both teams passing the ball about without creating any clear chances. On ten minutes Corey Thomson was released but the striker could not beat Cathroe in the Crichton goal. Five minutes later a through ball was punched at the edge of the box again by Cathroe when it looked like the ball was not in the box but the ref waved play on. There was more controversy minutes later when the ball got stuck under Ruddock's legs on the ground and as Maxwell came in with a hard challenge the player took offence pushing the Fleet player to the ground. The ref gave a foul to Crichton but only booked Ruddock and also booked C. Thomson of Fleet who did not look like he had done anything wrong. On nineteen minutes the ref gave a free kick to Crichton just out side the Fleet box. Crichton's Leighfield struck the ball which Hutchison tipped onto the bar but the ball rebounded back striking the keeper on the back and into the net to give Crichton the lead. Fleet didn't let this get them down and Corey Thomson was starting to cause the Crichton defence problems with his pace. On thirty minutes a through ball was flicked on by Mason to Maxwell who drove into the box before firing it into the middle where Corey Thomson struck home to equalise. Two minutes later Corey Thomson broke down the right and floated a ball into the box which held up in the wind and Mason headed home from six yards to give Fleet the lead. With a minute to go to half time Fleet had a great chance to extend their lead when Mason was released but his shot went agonising wide of the Crichton post.
The second half started well for Fleet with continuing to look dangerous up front and managing to keep Crichton to long range efforts. The game then changed on the hour mark when from a cross into the Fleet box Picken cleared the ball under pressure from Leighfield who told the defender to get up, Fleet's keeper Hutchison took offence to the strikers comments and pushed him over which the ref deemed to be a red card offence this time sending the keeper off. Fleet replaced Durham with sub goalkeeper Shanks and were coping with the Crichton efforts well. With twenty minutes left Crichton brought on Lee Malin and Gary Kerr and it proved the difference in the last part of the game. From a corner Malin poked the ball home levelling the game and with ten minutes left Kerr received a knock down at the edge of the box beat a man and curled the ball into the top corner of the goal to give Crichton the lead. Fleet replaced Corey Thomson with McKie but Crichton held on to claim victory.
Once again Fleet got themselves into a winning position with another battling performance but could not see the game out and found themselves not getting what they deserved from the game.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, J. Maxwell, Durham, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.
Subs: McColm, McKie, Trialist, Adams, Shanks.

Heston 3 - 3 Fleet Star
Fleet travelled to Dumfries to play an improving Heston team at Palmerston Park's 3G pitch. The game started with Fleet struggling to get to grips with the sticky surface and after five minutes found themselves behind when Heston broke down their left and their left midfielder was not tracked and found himself unmarked and finished well. Fleet started to get more into the game but were caught out again on the half hour mark and found themselves two down. They were lucky not to go further behind but Hutchison saved well to keep the score at two nil.
A few harsh words at half time and with two players feeling injuries Fleet changed Lord with Prentice and C. Thomson with Brock, these changes and the words ringing in the players ears spurred Fleet on and within eight minutes of the restart Picken headed (well the ball hit his ear) home from a corner to pull Fleet back into the game. Fleet continued to press and on the hour mark levelled the game when the ball broke to the edge of the box and Nathan Thomson controlled a half volley shot which looped into the back of the Heston net. Fleet were now well on top and went ahead two minutes later when a through ball found debutant John Prentice who out muscled the last defender, run through on goal and rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the empty net. Heston with twenty minutes left came back into the game and started to again get on top and with ten minutes left a cross to the edge of the fleet box encouraged keeper Hutchison out but the striker met the ball well looping it over the keeper and into the net. Heston now had the impetus and in the last few minutes could of won the match but the shot hit the crossbar and the Fleet defence managed to clear it meaning the game ended all square.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, J. Maxwell, Durham, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.
Subs: Prentice, McMinn, Brock, Marshall, Trialist.

Fleet Star 1 - 4 Nithsdale
After 13 weeks away from Garries Park, Fleet returned to play one of the top of the table teams. Heavy rain at the beginning of the week put the game in doubt but a couple of dry days and some hard work from the Fleet committee meant this game went ahead on a soft but playable pitch. Both teams were delighted to again get a game on and both teams had to adapt to the soft grass pitch.
Within five minutes Nithsdale had the ball in the Fleet net but the linesman flagged to save Fleet. The next chance fell to Fleet's striker Corey Thomson who drove past a defender in the box and curled a shot which evaded the Nithsdale keeper but also the post. On ten minutes Gavin Williamson weaved through the Nithsdale defence and found himself with only the keeper to beat but saw his shot saved well. Nithsdale were always dangerous with Roman Soltys always looking to get behind the Fleet defence but Muir and Picken at the heart of the Fleet defence were marshalling him well. Fleet looked like they were going to get to halftime on level terms however with a minute to go Mason played the ball back to Wilson at left back a little hard causing him to miss hit the ball which fell to the feet of the Nithsdale player who quickly played the ball into Soltys who finished well to give Nithsdale a halftime lead.
Fleet came out in the second half and again were competing well creating the odd half chance whilst keeping Nithsdale to long range efforts which Hutchison in their goal was more than up to. On the hour mark a corner for Nithsdale caused havoc in the Fleet box. A shot was saved by Hutchison, the rebound was blocked on the line, the next shot blocked again but this time it fell to the back post and was turned into the net from an acute angle. Two minutes later Picken was adjudged to have fouled Soltys who was backing into the centre half well and from the resulting free kick Soltys struck the ball under the Fleet wall and into the net to give Nithsdale a more comfortable three nil lead. Fleet replaced Mason with Durham and he freshened up the middle of the park with both teams feeling the heavy ground. With five minutes left a ball into Corey Thomson in the box saw the striker go down and although there was not much contact the ref blew for a penalty and his brother Nathan converted his ninth penalty of the season to pull a goal back. Nithsdale immediately went up the field and some tired challenges from the Fleet defence let Nithsdale in again for another goal to complete the scoring.
Fleet competed well against a good Nithsdale team but still have some way to go and have to take their chances whilst defending for the full game and not switching off for several minutes within the game.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, J. Maxwell, Green, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.
Subs: Durham, McMinn, Trialist, Adams, Shanks.

Fleet Star 1 - 6 Annan (played at Saint Cuthbert Wanderer's 3G pitch)
Fleet Star rearranged this challenge Cup round 1 match with Annan for Tuesday night and played at Saint Cuthbert's 3G pitch. With Annan's reserve game being postponed due to the weather they found themselves playing a strong Annan team which consisted of the five subs from their 1st team game on the Saturday as well as experienced player Peter Watson. Fleet were able to start Muir again after his injury and started with a new 3-4-2-1 formation which they had played in the friendly the week before and this gave them good possession early on. Both teams were even for the first twenty five minutes then a through ball from Jardine released the Annan attacker who played the ball into the middle and his strike partner finished at the back post. Annan used their experience and went for Fleets jugular and with Fleet on a low scored a further two goals in two minutes. Fleet were now looking out of their depths with Hutchison in goal saving them from further goals. Their forward midfielders were struggling to get into the game and worse was to come for them on thirty three minutes when they conceded a fourth.
At half time Fleet returned to their 4-5-1 formation and the team seemed more used to this formation and started to play better. They pressed early on and won several corner's before on fifty three minutes Annan cleared another corner however Fleet's captain Calum Wilson collected the ball and chanced his luck from forty yards. The ball flew over the Annan keeper and brought the score back to 4-1. Fleet replaced Williamson with Brock and then McColm with Muirhead to try and liven up the game. Annan continued to pass the ball about but Fleet were managing the movement better but conceded a break away goal on sixty minutes. The last half hour was again very even however Annan scored again to go 6-1 up. With fifteen minutes left Mason replaced the injured Corey Thomson but the game finished with no further goals. Fleet would take heart from a improved second half performance but still have the issue of a mad ten minute spell in games which ultimately cost them points. Other positive notes was the performance of Hutchison and Nathan Thomson who both played well against the experienced Annan side.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, J. Maxwell, Green, Wilson, Williamson, N. Thomson, McColm, C Thomson.

Wigtown 6 - 0 Fleet Star
Another defeat for Fleet
Fleet star started this Tweedie Cup first round game and for the first fifteen minutes competed well against a strong Wigtown team and the heavy pitch. On eighteen minutes Wigtown won a corner and when it was swung in Adam Dougan controlled the ball, slipped but still had time to compose himself and poke the ball into the net to give Wigtown the lead. This knocked Fleet's composure and they were lucky not to be two down minutes later when Erskine controlled the ball in the Fleet box but shot wide of the target. As Fleet were getting back into the game a through ball found McHarrie who outpaced Wilson and got a shot away which bobbled on the surface and over the outstretched arms of Hutchison in the fleet goal to give Wigtown a two goal lead on thirty minutes. Five minutes later Wigtown were three up when McHarrie again caused problems and as he was tackled found Jameson who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Fleet replaced the injured Durham with Lord at the break but Wigtown players were confident at being three up and continued to push forward. Within ten minutes they were four up when again McHarrie was released and as the Fleet defenders claimed for offside the striker tucked the ball under Hutchison and into the net. Fleet then had another injury with Muirhead having to be replaced with Mason. Wigtown had other great chances with Fleet only managing the odd long range effort. Wigtown were now well in control and were able to give their subs a run and with twenty minutes left a cross from the right found Jamieson unmarked and he headed the ball home to make it five nil. Fleet brought on Brock for the last fifteen minutes for the tiring Christie but it was Wigtown who completed the scoring to make the game six nil and progress to the next round of the cup.
Team: Hutchison, J. Maxwell, Green, Picken, Wilson, Christie, Williamson, Durham, N. Thomson, Muirhead, C Thomson.

Newton Stewart 7 - 0 Fleet Star
Festive Stuffing for Star
Fleet started the new year not having being able to train over the festive period and this showed in their performance. Right from the start Newton looked sharper and quicker all over the pitch and with new signings looked stronger within their squad too. Fleet were missing several players and had to utilise the whole of their squad. Gavin Green replaced injured Muir at centre half and Christie came back in to the midfield in place of Williamson.
Within the first five minutes Newton broke forward and ex Dalbeattie player, Curtis Wilson played a one two and finished past Hutchison in the Fleet goal. Ten minutes later Newton were two up when from a corner Dean Thomson beat the Fleet defenders to the ball and turned it goal wards and into the net. Fleet started to get a few passes together but were still finding it hard to keep Newton out and on thirty minutes Newton increased their lead when John Lowe scored goal number three. A minute later Lewis Dunn set up Johnny Fisher to score the fourth goal to put the home side four up going into the break.
The second half started with Fleet stringing several good passes together without creating any clear chances and on fifty five minutes Newton increased their lead from a Dean Thomson penalty after Green brought down Fisher in the box. Fleet replaced the tiring Christie with McColm but on Sixty five minutes Calum Dunn found the net with goal number six. With fifteen minutes left fifteen year old Trialist Ewan McMinn replaced Muirhead however he could do nothing with seven minutes left to play when substitute Robert Middleton drove the ball home for Newton's seventh.
Team: Hutchison, J. Maxwell, Green, Picken, Wilson, Muirhead, Durham, Christie, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.

Nithsdale 5 - 1 Fleet Star
Two late goals makes score line look worse
Fleet travelled to Sanquhar to play last months abandoned match and although the weather had again been wet the pitch this time held up although it was soft. Fleet had Captain Calum Wilson missing along with Scott Christie and Ian Cairnie through Injury. Josh Maxwell came back into the team with Gary Lord moving to left back, Corey Thomson also came back into the team in a slightly different 4-3-3 formation.
The game started with Nithsdale playing their sharp and direct style with at times pushing four players up front which caused the Fleet defence problems. On ten minutes Muir played the ball back to keeper Hutchison and immediately started to look in discomfort, before Fleet could replace the injured player Nithsdale played a long ball into the Fleet box and the ball was knocked down to Soltys who took a touch before unleashing a shot which found the top corner of the goal. McMillan then came on for Muir which meant some changes to the team, Lord moved to centre half with Nathan Thomson moving to left back. Fleet were struggling to get possession and the three forwards were not managing to create any major chances and on twenty minutes Soltys again scored from a free kick as he smashed the ball past the wall and Hutchison in the Fleet goal. Nithsdale were now in full control, their direct balls behind the Fleet defence were creating other chances for them but Hutchison and the Fleet defence kept them at bay. Fleet also were starting to gain the ball in good areas without creating any clear cut chances. With five minutes to go before half time Soltys again turned Maxwell and as he went to run away from the defender fell and the ref pointed to the spot to the shock of the Fleet defence who felt the striker had caught his own feet. Soltys stepped up but instead of completing his hat trick saw his penalty clip the outside of the post and out. Two minutes later Soltys again twisted inside the Fleet box and Maxwell clipped the striker, this time the ref waved play on and within a minute the ref blew for half time.
Fleet players came out after half time and started to go more direct and press the ball higher up. Within five minutes a through ball found Corey Thomson who with only the Nithsdale keeper to beat shot well but the keeper saved the shot with his outstretched leg. On fifty minutes Corey again run onto a through ball but this time with support in the middle lashed at his shot which sailed over the bar. Fleet were now playing better and were coping with Nithsdale's formation as well as creating chances. On sixty minutes Durham was caught recklessly and late by the Nithsdale full back in the centre of the park, the ref booked the midfielder and Durham after treatment had to leave the park as the rules state. From the resulting free kick Nithsdale cleared the ball from their box and broke onto the Fleet defence, before Durham could get back into position a ball was played through to Soltys who this time slotted the ball home to complete his hat trick. Fleet again picked themselves up Williamson made a great run down the right and passed inside to Corey Thomson who swivelled and struck a great shot into the corner of the net to pull a goal back. Fleet then replaced Muirhead and mason with McColm and Lindsay and were holding their own in the last twenty minutes of the game. With ten minutes to go another late challenge by Weir was only punished by a yellow card when a red might have been shown. With stoppage time remaining Nithsdale broke onto fleet and a cross from the left evaded everyone apart from the Nithsdale sub who from five yards had a free header. A minute later from a Fleet corner Nithsdale again broke and that man again Soltys completed the scoring to give the game a harsh score line especially on Fleet's second half performance.

A minute later from a Fleet corner Nithsdale again broke and that man again Soltys completed the scoring to give the game a harsh score line especially on Fleet's second half performance.

Saints 2 - 1 Fleet Star
Fleet Star travelled to play a Saints side who were missing their regular goalie Jack Johnston who was sent off last week. Fleet themselves were missing Josh Maxwell and Scott Christie who pulled up during the warm up. Gary Lord replaced Josh at right back, Gavin Williamson came back into the midfield after his suspension and Jamie Muirhead kept his place upfront after last weeks display.
Saints started the game well and looked sharp on the ball but the first chance of the game fell to Fleet, a well worked move released Nathan Thomson on the left but Mason also ran onto the through ball and the linesman put the flag up. On eight minutes another through ball found Cairnie this time on the right, he found himself one on one with Saints stand in keeper Fraser Conn who spread himself well and blocked the effort. Saints started to mix the game and a long diagonal ball caught Fleet captain Wilson out and the right winger crossed the ball for Phil Middlemass to tab the ball home in the middle. Fleet looked shocked but started to get more into the game and Williamson started to press higher and started to put more pressure on the saints defence. Saints continued to look sharp but Muir and Picken were marshalling the threat of Rudd and Middlemass up front.
The second half started with both teams pressing, Saints had an effort on goal which Hutchison smothered well whilst Williamson shot over for Fleet. Saints then had a great chance when Hutchison spilled a shot, Grant Middlemass collected the ball but as he took the ball past the keeper, Picken again stepped in to clear the ball. With half an hour to go Fleet replaced Mason and Muirhead with Corey Thomson and McMillan. Within five minutes of the change Cairnie released Corey Thomson who run in on goal but with only the keeper to beat and McMillan in the middle he blasted wide. The same two combined again but this time the defence cleared the ball for a Fleet corner. From the corner McMillan headed over but Fleet were getting closer. With ten minutes left Fleet again were awarded a corner, this time the corner was cleared by the Saints defender, Durham's shot was blocked on the edge of the box and Saints broke. Wilson tried to match the run but as he blocked the first shot the ball fell to Rudd in the Fleet box, Picken showed him inside onto his weaker left but Rudd thumped the ball into the roof of the net to give Saints some breathing room. Fleet continued to press and with a minute left Corey Thomson was brought down in the box as he shot by Adam Johnson who was shown the red card and Fleet were awarded a penalty. Brother Nathan Thomson slotted his eighth penalty of the season in and reduced the score line but Saints held on to the ball for the last minute to claim the three points.

Fleet Star 0 - 2 Threave Rovers
Fleet Star started this Regional Cup round 2 game against Lowland League side Threave Rovers off the back of a poor performance and were looking for a response, the response did come but unfortunately it happened after five minutes when they were already two goals behind.
Fleet Star replaced suspended Gavin Williamson with Ian Cairnie who was starting his first game for some time after his long term injury and Josh Maxwell replaced Gary Lord at Right back. Threave put pressure on the Fleet defence right from the kick off and also played a 4-3-2-1 formation which unsettled Fleet and took them some time to get to grips with. On three minutes a through ball by Wilby found Frew who looked offside but the flag stayed down and Frew slotted the ball home to give Threave an early lead. Things were to get worse for Fleet as within two minutes Maxwell rolled the ball back to Hutchison in the Fleet goal however as he went to clear the ball Milligan charged the ball down and it stuck the striker and looped into the net. Fleet settled into the game and got to grips with the Threave formation as well as finding room down the right side with several good passing movements that just lacked the final ball.
At half time Fleet replaced the injured Corey Thomson with Jamie Muirhead and this gave them livelier movement up front which in turn increased the movement and work rate from Mason. Within a minute of the restart Muirhead was released down the left however with only Parker in the Threave goal to beat shot straight at the goalie and the chance was missed. Fleet were now dictating the game with Threave creating very little chances and Hutchison in the Fleet goal having nothing to do. On sixty minutes a corner was headed goal wards by Mason but the ball struck the bar with the keeper beaten. Fleet again kept the pressure on and Cairnie again delivered another great corner however this time Picken found himself unmarked but slightly under the ball and could not get enough direction on the ball and another chance was missed. Fleet continued to press for a goal and replaced the tiring Christie with McMillan but were unable to get the Goal that there second half performance deserved. The work rate and effort of the Fleet team showed that they can compete with any team but have to start the effort from the first whistle and cannot give any team an early advantage and then expect to get anything from the game.
Team: Hutchison, J. Maxwell, Muir, Picken, Wilson, Cairnie, Christie, Durham, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.

Lochar 4 - 0 Fleet Star
Fleet Star came into this game unbeaten in three (granted one was abandoned) but never looked like extending this run with a bobbly pitch and against a spirited Lochar side.
The game started with Fleet Star playing against the wind and finding it hard to adapt to the uneven pitch, Lochar in the other hand started well and within three minutes were awarded a free kick on the right hand side. The ball was floated into the box and Michael McGauchie lost his marker to head the ball home from eight yards to give Lochar the lead. Fleet continued to struggled to get into the game but were also restricting Lochar to the odd chance. With minutes left before the break McGauchie again popped up to beat Hutchison in the Fleet goal from the penalty spot after Picken upended the Lochar winger.
Worse was to come for Fleet after the break when within five minutes of the restart Gavin Williamson dived into a challenge but although he did not catch the midfielder the ref gave him his second booking and reduced Fleet to ten men. The ten men started to increase their effort and started to play the ball forward earlier but without creating any clear cut chances. Midway through the second half McGauchie completed his hat trick and confirmed the three points for Lochar. Fleet replaced Christie, Mason and Corey Thomson with Cairnie, McColm and Lindsay but it was that man McGauchie again who had the last word with his and Lochar's fourth goal five minutes before the end of the game.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, Christie, Durham, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.

Mid Annandale 2 - 2 Fleet Star
After last week’s abandonment at Nithsdale, Fleet Star were assured that their game against Mid Annandale would go ahead on Annan’s 3G pitch. Fleet started the game better and put some early pressure on the Mids defence. McMillan started in midfield for the injured Maxwell however as usual the ball was more on the dugout side and he had little opportunity to get involved. A through ball to Corey Thomson allowed the striker to run one on one with the Mids goalkeeper, Smith who was being asked to play in goals from his usual defensive position due to the injury to regular goalie during last week, however the striker chose to chip the goalie and did not get enough on the ball. On nine minutes Williamson made a great driving run into the Mids box and although Smith saved his first effort the ball fell again to his feet and he fired the ball into the net to put Fleet one up. Instead of gaining confidence and momentum Fleet were either pressed back by the Mids team or sat back which allowed Mids some pressure and within three minutes a through ball saw lord slip at the edge of his box which allowed Mids right winger the opportunity to strike a perfect strike into Fleet’s bottom corner. Mids now were on the up however the best opportunity again fell to Fleet’s Corey Thomson who again found himself clear but again did not find the finish. On twenty two minutes Mids took
the lead when a free kick on the right was swung in left footed and a free header in the middle gave Hutchison no hope in the Fleet goal. Fleet then picked up again and on thirty five minutes were awarded a free kick twenty five yards out, Corey Thomson this time found his range and curled the ball past Smith in goal and into the net to square the game.
The second half started with both teams looking for the winner, Mids broke down the right side and a square ball fell to their striker who struck the ball goal wards but Hutchison was in the correct place to block the ball. Both teams started to tire as the game went on, Mason had a great chance on the edge of the Mids box but took an early shot when he might have had more time and screwed the ball past the post. Fleet replaced the tiring McMillan with Muirhead then Corey Thomson with trialist Cairnie and late on replaced Mason with Lindsay but the game ended as a draw with both teams taking a point each.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, McMillan, Durham, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.

Nithsdale a - a (15mins) Fleet Star
Fleet Star travelled to Sanquhar in good spirit after last weeks penalty shoot out win against Newton Stewart however this game was always in doubt due to the torrential rain. The weather in the morning had been fine meaning the pitch was in perfect condition however a heavy downpour an hour before kick off meant that water started to sit on the surface. The Nithsdale committee and some players started to sweep the puddles off the pitch and hats off to the ref who gave them and the weather every chance to play the game. The rain stopped and the sweepers managed to remove the worst of the puddles allowing the game to start. Although not perfect the pitch was given the benefit however within a minute the heavens opened again and the pitch started to puddle up meaning the ball was not running and the players were unable to judge the bounce or pass the ball fully. This was evident when several through balls hit a puddle and did not run through as expected. On five minutes a pass back to Hutchison in the Fleet goal stuck in the puddle allowing the Nithsdale striker to run on but Hutchison pulled of a great save to keep the score level. on eight minutes the same happened again however this time player manager David Kennedy chipped Hutchison to put Nithsdale 1-0 up. The rain did not let up and on fifteen minutes, both benches as well as the referee agreed that the game was not going to be completed and the game was abandoned.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Muir, Picken, Wilson, J Maxwell, Durham, Williamson, N. Thomson, Mason, C Thomson.
Subs: Lindsay, Brock, McMillan, Davis, Adams.

Newton Stewart 4 - 4 aet (3-4 pens) Fleet Star
Fleet travelled to Newton Stewart to play Newton's in the 1st round of the SFA Challenge Cup on their new 3G surface which was opened last week and thankfully they had this surface or the game could have turned into a farce. Just as the game kicked off the rain started and apart from the odd minute towards the end of the match it did not let up, however the new surface meant that apart from all players, official and spectators being wet through the game and surface was not a problem.
Fleet changed several players from last week with Lord coming in at right back, Williamson coming into midfield and Mason starting up front. It was Newton who got into their passing game early one but the Fleet players were working hard to shut them down without stringing many passes together themselves. On twenty minutes a through ball picked out a great run by Mason who beat the offside trap and on his left foot composed himself before striking the ball under the Newton goalie to give Fleet the lead. Newton came back but again Mason had another chance but his through ball to strike partner Corey Thomson was snuffed out by the Newton defence. On thirty minutes Newton drew level when a Dean Thomson free kick from the right was swung into the Fleet box and although Fleet tried to hold a high line Liam Muir sneaked in to head home. Worse was to come for Fleet minutes later as from a corner Fleet failed to clear the ball on several occasions and again Muir struck the ball home from six yards to put Newton ahead at the break.
The second half started with both teams passing the ball well without creating any clear cut chances. Fleet replaced J. Maxwell with McMillan and with twenty minutes left brought on McCutcheon for the tiring C. Thomson. With ten minutes left a cross come shot from the right was finished off by McCutcheon for his second goal of the season in as many games to draw Fleet level. This gave Fleet the believe and with five minutes left Lord who was having a great game found himself in an attacking position and as the ball fell to him twenty five yards out, he struck the ball with his weaker left foot and the shot flew into the Newton net to put Fleet ahead. Newton had only five minutes left to take the game into extra time but as Fleet have lost so many late goals in previous games the Fleet management were on edge and rightly so as within a minute a corner from the right caught the wind and as Hutchison is the Fleet goal clawed the ball out it fell to the Newton striker who struck it home and the game went into extra time.
The first half of extra time came and went with the only notable thing Fleet bringing on Brock for Williamson and it looked like the game was going to penalties until ten minutes into the second period when a shot by Newton Midfielder struck the head of Fleet defender Muir and loop into the top corner of the Fleet goal to give Newton a 4-3 lead. You could of forgiven Fleet for thinking their luck was again out for another week but this team showed character and with a minute of extra time to go Muir got on the end of a corner and the ref judged the ball to have crossed the line when Newton cleared it to take the game into penalties.
Newton took first penalty and sent Hutchison the wrong way make the score 1-0, Nathan Thomson done his usual job in equalising 1-1. Newton's Muir then stepped up but saw his penalty creep past Hutchison's left hand post. Mason, Brock and Muir all scored for fleet as well as another two for Newton meaning the score was 4-3 to Fleet. Newton now had to score to make Fleet's last taker win the game however Hutchison who was that taker saved the penalty to send Fleet into the second round of the SFA Challenge cup where they will now meet Threave Rovers at Garries Park on 23rd November.
A great result and some good performances, well done !!

Fleet Star 0 - 2 Abbey Vale
Vale travelled to play Fleet with better fortunes having won one and lost one since replacing their previous manager with new manager Speedy Clark. Vale looked more organised than when the two teams met earlier in the season and Vale players looked more up for the game than the Fleet players and were out for revenge. Vale players shut the Fleet players down quickly and did not give them time to get into any sort of passing rhythm. On five minutes a through ball released Corey Thomson who's shot was well saved by the Vale keeper. The same player again had a chance on fifteen minutes but again it came to nothing. Vale's front two were giving the Fleet defence a hard time and were chasing everything, a free kick on the right hand side was awarded to Vale and from the resulting free kick the Fleet defence did not clear the ball and it made its way through to the penalty spot where the Vale forward finished to give Vale the lead. the rest of the half was even with both teams creating the odd chance which were snuffed out by both defences.
The second half started with Fleet looking a little sharper and a through ball to Corey Thomson saw the striker turn then go down in the box, the ref seemed to point to the penalty spot however proceeded to book the striker and award a free kick to Vale. The same striker had another effort which he got all wrong and the effort floated into the keepers hands. Abbey Vale then doubled their lead when a throw in on the right was touched inside and a looping shot from distance floated over Fleet keeper Hutchison's head and into the back of the net after five minutes of the second half. Worse was to come for Fleet as a rash tackle from midfielder Scott Christie was deemed a bad tackle by the ref and a red card was shown. Fleet battled hard in the last thirty minutes but with no real bite up front, McColm, S. Maxwell and Lindsay were all introduced for C. Thomson, Brock and J. Maxwell but with ten men all three found it hard to have any impact on the game.
Team: Hutchison, J.Maxwell, Muir, Picken, Wilson, Durham, Brock, Christie, N. Thomson, McKie, C Thomson.

Fleet Star 4 - 5 Heston Poor start and finish costs Fleet Star dearly !!
Fleet Star made two changes with Davie McKie coming in for Gavin Williamson and Ali Mason coming in for Gregg Reid. The start to the game couldn't of been worse for Fleet as within a minute a cross from the right was met at the back post by the untracked Heston player who finished from six yards. Things were to get even worse on six minutes when Irvine was not tracked by Mason and he cut the ball back to see the ball struck into the net to put Heston two up. Fleet tried to compose themselves and after a corner a through ball by Mason found McKie who turned and slotted the ball under the Heston keeper to cut the deficit. Heston found themselves two goals up again on sixteen minutes when a ball down the fleet right found Mason wrong side of his attacker and as he tried to get back bundled into the Heston wide man and gave away a penalty which was clinically despatched to make the score 3-1. Mason was replaced with Brock on twenty minutes and this seemed to Shure up the Fleet midfield with Durham tracking Irvine wide as well as getting forward to cause the Heston defence some trouble. On thirty minutes a corner by Durham was flicked on at the near post by Muir and Picken managed to get enough of a contact to turn the ball over the line to bring the score back to 3-2. Fleet then nearly went two goals down again when a defensive mix up let the Heston Striker who rounded keeper Hutchison and was about to roll the ball into the net when Keiran Durham came from no where with a magnificent sliding challenge to block the ball and save a sure goal.
The second half started like the first but this time it was Fleet that scored after a minute, Corey Thomson collected the ball and made a run into the box and was felled giving brother Nathan another chance to score from the penalty spot. Nathan despatched his seventh penalty of the season to draw Fleet level. Better was to come for Fleet as on the hour mark a miss kick from the Heston keeper allowed Corey Thomson to gather the ball and slot home from a tight angle with defenders trying to get back onto the line. Fleet continued to look comfortable and the hardworking forwards were causing Heston some worries with Heston being marshalled well by the Fleet defence. McColm and S. Maxwell replaced C. Thomson and McKie but with nine minutes left a slip by Wilson allowed Heston in and the game was again tied at 4-4. Nerves as well as the impetus changed and with three minutes left Darren Brown found himself unmarked in the fleet box with the defence looking at the linesman but his flag stayed down and Brown tucked the ball past Hutchison to win the game for Heston.

Crichton 2 - 1 Fleet Star
Fleet Star travelled to Hospital Park to play a Crichton team that were on a high after beating Saints last week on Saint’s new 3G pitch after extra time. Fleet started the game well with only one change to the starting line-up, Scott Christie coming into the midfield to replace the injured McMillan.
Again the team looked organised and restricted Crichton to very few chances whilst creating problems for the Crichton defenders. Thomson and Williamson up front were looking lively with the Fleet midfield gaining the upper hand whilst the defence looked solid. On ten minutes a through ball from the Fleet defence was run onto by Corey Thomson who beat the offside trap and squared to brother Nathan who knocked the ball into the empty net to give Fleet the lead. The first half continued to be even with neither side creating many clear chances. With a minute left to half time Crichton broke down the right side getting behind Wilson who again was playing at left back and crossed a great ball to the back
post where Lee Malin finished with a great header to level the scores.
Fleet replaced Reid with McColm at half time and the game continued to be an even contest however Crichton started to become more and more into the game. Several Fleet players started to look heavy legged which allowed Crichton players more ball however they were not creating any clear chances. Halfway through the second half from a Fleet attack Maxwell dwelled on the ball on the half way line which gave the Crichton attacker the opportunity to break on the Fleet defence. Christie got back to defend the ball but sliced his clearance and after a scramble the ball fell to Malin again who poked the ball home to put Crichton ahead. McKie and Lindsay were introduced for Christie and Williamson but the game finished with no real further chances.
Fleet Star lost this game but the performance again highlighted the progress that the squad is making after running another team close and they now look forward to playing against Heston at home next week.
Team: Hutchison, Maxwell, Muir, Picken, Wilson, Reid, Durham, Christie, N. Thomson, Williamson, C Thomson.

Creetown 0 - 3 Fleet Star
Fleet Star went into this game looking for a little revenge for last month’s defeat at the hands of Creetown and although again eight players were missing they recorded their second victory of the season.
The game started with again changes to the starting line-up, Josh Maxwell came back in to right back, club captain Calum Wilson was again asked to play another position, this time at left back and Ali McMillan came in for his full debut at left midfield. Fleet started to pass the ball about at the back and looked comfortable and lively and after five minutes won a corner after some early pressure. From the resulting corner Robert Muir rose at the back post to head home Ali McMillan’s corner to give Fleet Star an early lead. Two minutes later a cross from Reid on the right caused confusion with defenders and keeper both missing the ball but when the ball fell to McMillan’s feet he looked shocked and did not connect properly which allowed the defender on the line to clear. As usual nerves started to show and several players started to misplace passes and look nervous instead of the comfort of being a goal ahead. Several chances were still being created however the ruthless streak was still missing and the score stayed the same.
Creetown made a change at the start of the second half but it was Fleet who got into a more relaxed and fluent mood and now started to create chance after chance. Ali McMillan run onto a ball in the Creetown box and as Houston closed him down he barged into the back of him giving Fleet the opportunity to increase their lead from the penalty spot. Nathan Thomson again stood up and send Nathan Brown in the Creetown goal the wrong way to score his sixth penalty of the season. This gave the Fleet players confidence and although they created chance after chance Corey Thomson, Gavin Williamson, Ali McMillan and Nathan Thomson all seen efforts saved or narrowly go past the Creetown goal. Creetown created very little and the centre half partnership of Muir and Picken along with fullbacks Maxwell and Wilson were very comfortable and playing well. Fleet introduced trialist Green, McKie and Maxwell and increased the score line with fifteen minutes left when a flick on by Williamson was finished by Durham for his first of the season to give Fleet a comfortable win.

Fleet Star 1 - 1 Mid Annandale
Fleet Star dropped another two points but hopefully will use the point as a starting place to improve their season. With six players missing Fleet had to make several changes, Kenny Shanks replaced Shaun Hutchison in goal, Captain Calum Wilson had to slot in at right back, Ali Mason returned to midfield and Scott Christie got his chance in the middle of the park.
The game started well with both teams finding their feet. A good ball down the right released Corey Thomson who took a good touch and shot from a tight angle but found the Mids keeper was up to the chance and turned it round the post. Five minutes later a similar ball found Williamson who likewise found the Mids keeper in good form as he saw his shot saved. Mids then were unlucky when from a corner the ball broke to the edge of the box and a well hit shot rebounded off the post with Shanks beaten. The rest of the half was even with neither team testing their opposition goalie.
The second half started with again both sides passing the ball well without creating any clear chances. Fleet looked more organised and were working well as a team and got their rewards on the hour mark when a shot was deemed to hit a hand on the edge of the Mids box. Corey Thomson and Durham stood over the ball but it was Thomson who curled his shot into the top right hand side of the goal to give Fleet the lead. Mids introduced fresh legs up front but a clash of heads five minutes later saw the young striker have to come off with concussion which in turn saw player manager Sloan come on and it was him who equalised for Mids with fifteen minutes left. A shot come cross from the edge of the box bobbled past the Fleet defence and was met eight yards out by Sloan to beat Shanks in goal. The last fifteen minutes of the game saw both teams go for the win. Reid,McColm and trialist McMillan were introduced for Fleet and McColm had a chance to win it for Fleet when he was released but his shot went agonisingly past the post. Mids had the last chance of the game when Shanks miss judged a cross but fortunately saw the ball rebound off the post and back into his hands.
Overall Fleet edged the game and were a little unlucky not to win the game but hopefully will use the point as a building block especially with the bottom of the table clash against Creetown next week.

Fleet Star 3 - 4 Lochar
Fleet Star went into this clash having shown a slight improvement in form over the past two games but unfortunately the same issues raised their heads again.
Lochar started the game well and were sharper to the ball and looked more up for the game than the Fleet team. On two minutes a through ball behind right back Maxwell released the pacey winger and a badly timed and unnecessary tackle by Maxwell saw the ref blow for a penalty even though the player stayed on his feet and never went down. From the resulting penalty Hutchison saved well down to his right to keep the scores level. Fleet started to get a little more into the game but on seventeen minutes a ball into the box was not dealt with and the Lochar attacker had an easy side foot from six yards out. Fleet started to get in behind the Lochar defence and when a ball was played into striker Corey Thomson he turned in the box and was pulled back by the Lochar defender and the ref blew for the second penalty of the game but this time for Fleet Star. Brother Nathan Thomson took the penalty and was fortunate to see the ball squirm under the keeper’s right arm and into the corner. Lochar again lifted themselves and the same winger was again released down the right and managed to get to the by-line and cut the ball back to the striker in the box who had time to control the ball and poke it into the corner of the net from again six yards.
A half time talking to for the Fleet players seemed to have worked when five minutes into the second half a through ball was missed by the out rushing Lochar keeper and as Corey Thomson went to run passed the keeper he grabbed him and was dismissed as well as Fleet being awarded a penalty. Dempster who had been playing upfront for Lochar put on the gloves but Nathan Thomson this time made no mistake to level the game at 2-2. Things were to get worse for
Dempster as within ten minutes of taking over in goals again a through ball to Corey Thomson released him and the out rushing goalie took the striker down and he also was shown the red card with the fourth penalty being awarded in the
game. Nathan Thomson again stepped up this time against his third goalie of the game and smashed the ball down the middle to put Fleet 3-2 up and two men up. This should have been the perfect opportunity for Fleet to go on and win this
game but again the old issues started to creep into the game with players trying to play the harder ball and not working unlike the nine men of Lochar who upped their effort and were rewarded when a long ball was misjudged by the Fleet
defenders and the Striker run on to slot the ball under the efforts of Hutchison in the Fleet goal. Worse was to come for Fleet as the same player again was released and his pass was met by his team mate to give Lochar the lead again
4-3. Fleet made several changes but this did not even change the dejected looking players who have only themselves to look at and need to learn quick that a game is never over until the ref blows the final whistle.

Fleet Star 0 - 3 Wigtown
After over twenty four hours of heavy rain it was a testament to the hard work put in by the Fleet Star committee that once again Garries Park was in immaculate condition for the arrival of Wigtown for this South of Scotland League match. The game started with Fleet playing into a strong wind and were struggling to put pressure on the Wigtown defence. Richard Jones opened the scoring for the league leaders after twelve minutes play sweeping in a loose
ball at the back post. Fleet came into the game after adjusting to the conditions and created two half chances before Jamie McHarrie added a second on the half hour mark, beating the home sides offside trap, to give the visitors a
two goals to nil cushion at the break.
H/T 0-2
The home side started the second half brightly and played passages of flowing football, although unable to
create many chances played with more purpose. Greg Reid replaced Kieran Durham on the right side of midfield and shortly after Corey Thomson came on for Stuart Maxwell and also Jamie Muirhead taking the place of Nathan Thompson. A two nil victory for the Trammondford Park would probably have been a fair result but with a couple of minutes to go a needless penalty was given away but with the resultant spot kick Mickey Donnelly hit the post. A minute later Wigtown secured the three points on the final whistle with an eight yard effort from Blair Dougan.

Fleet Star 1 - 3 Dalbeattie Star
This cup tie was predicted to be a one sided encounter with people predicting a cricket score however Fleet Star showed a fight that had been missing in previous weeks. Dalbeattie being asked by manager Paul McGinley were being asked to sit off and not press the ball, this let the Fleet players grow in confidence and get a feel of the ball. The first fifteen minutes seen Fleet have a good chunk of possession and keep Dalbeattie from many chances. On the twenty minute mark however a through ball found the forward running Sam Warren who rounded Hutchison in the Fleet goal to give Dalbeattie a goal advantage. This was doubled on the hour mark when the aforementioned Warren went down the left and his cross was turned in by Paul Cook at the back post. Fleet were battling well and had several sights of goal themselves and were restricting Dalbeattie at the other end.
The second half again seen Dalbeattie create several chances but found Hutchison in the Fleet goal in fine form. Dalbeattie brought on Cameron, Milligan and Maxwell and looked far sharper however the work rate of the Fleet team was frustrating the Dalbeattie team and with ten minutes left Fleet sub Davie McKie ran onto a perfect Maxwell pass beating the keeper to the ball and tapped the ball into the net to give Fleet hope. This hope faded within a minute when Cameron beat the offside trap to square for fellow sub Milligan to tap home.
Although this was another defeat for Fleet there were several positives to be taken from the game.

Fleet Star 1 - 7 Newton Stewart
Fleet Star started this game with players missing again for the second game running but were hoping for an improved performance after the disappointing last three results. Personnel meant a change of formation to 3-5-2 and this seemed to be working when after 13 minutes a through pass by Gavin Williamson sent strike partner Corey Thomson who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. Newton came more into the game and ten minutes later were level when a soft penalty was given and Newton's Dean Thomson slotted home. This spurred Newton and a break down the right and cross was met by Liam Muir from six yards to put Newton two one up.
Fleet came out at the start of the second half with hope of getting back into the game but after fifteen minutes of the second half the game was truly over as Fleet conceded four goals in quick succession. The lack of tackles as well as following runners allowed Newton to get in behind and allow tap ins from cut backs which Shaun Hutchison in the fleet goal had no chance with. With the score now 6-1 fleet went to a more conventional 4-4-2 and started to play the ball better and had several chances. Gavin Williamson hit a post, Ali Mason had a great opportunity with his head and Angus brock had a chance. The last kick of the ball again highlighted the issues Fleet Star have as again a lack of tackles allowed Newton to complete the scoring giving Fleet a disappointing 7-1 defeat.

Fleet Star 1 - 3 Heston
Fleet Star started this South of Scotland League Cup 1st round tie against Heston Rovers with the same commitment they showed in the second half against Wigtown and deservedly took the lead in 20th minute from a confidently struck Nathan Thomson penalty, after Corey Thomson was bundled over in the box as he was trying to get a shot on goal. 12 minutes later, due to some poor marking by the home side, Gary Tweedie levelled from 18 yards with a well taken shot. Kieran Durham shot over the bar from a free kick before Shaun Hutchison made a diving save to stop a Craig Adamson free kick from 20 yards.
The second half started with Heston raising the pace of the game and catching the Fleet boys asleep on a few occasions from quick free kicks and corners and keeping the ball much better than the home team. It was from a quickly taken corner on 52 minutes that Craig Adamson was tripped in the box by Kieran Durham and the same player stepped up and scored from the resultant spot kick. On the hour mark Matthew McColm replaced at tiring Corey Thomson.
Worse was to follow for the home side, when on 65 minutes a long throw in from David Bradbury was headed challenged into the net by Ally Queen. Davie McKie replaced Calum Wilson and Stuart Maxwell made his debut replacing Greg Reid with Maxi settling into the centre of midfield with Kieran Durham moving to the right. The game was now turning into a midfield battle and few chances were being created by either team and by the final whistle no one would argue that Heston had deserved their victory, but encouraging signs are there for all to see for the Fleet fans. A bit more self belief by the youngsters in the Fleet squad will continue the resurgence as the season gets into full swing over the next few weeks.
Full Time 1-3
Fleet Star 1 - 3 Heston

Wednesday 7th August 2013
Fleet Star 1 - 4 Wigtown
As the 1st round of the Cree Lodge Cup on Wednesday 7th August kicked off it looked like Fleet had reverted back to the team of last season as Wigtown were totally dominant. All over the park Fleet's players were out played and created problems for themselves by allowing the opposition time and space and did not compete physically as was required to counter the Wigtown threat. Unable to keep the ball and get any pattern to their play Fleet were not causing any threat to the Wigtown defence.
A disputed first goal was scored by Ross Drysdale in the 15th minute as a Fleet's defence were sure the ball had not crossed the line after hitting the crossbar and post before being cleared. Jamie McHarrie slotted the second on 22 minutes and Ian Millar got a third for Wigtown after 35 minutes when he fastened on to a cutback which the Fleet defence failed to clear and thundered in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area. Scott Forrester made it 4-0 after 38 minutes running from deep and receiving a pass splitting the Fleet midfield and defence and firing home. With the first half drawing to a close Fleet scored with their first real attack on the Wigtown goal as from a free kick, James Picken latched on to the ball on 6 yards, as the Wigtown keeper spilled the cross, and slid the ball home.
After a much needed half time inquest and reorganisation took place in the home dressing room Corey Thomson came on for his debut to replace the unwell Davie McKie. The Fleet team took to the field changing to a 3-5-2 formation to try and stop the dominant Wigtown team who were looking to inflict a heavy defeat.
From the referees whistle the game changed and Wigtown were now the team on the back foot with Fleet putting pressure on the opposition defence and immediately creating a half chance for Thomson. More chances were created for the home side during the course of the second half the best of those falling to Nathan Thomson, Rab Muir and another for Corey Thomson as Fleet were unfortunate not to pull at least a goal back. Wigtown were not managing to break the Fleet Star ranks at all in the second half as the defence stayed strong and Hutchison in the home goals was rarely troubled. Midway through the second half Angus Brock came on for Elliot Johnston and then Josh Maxwell replaced Ali Mason. To a man the team competed with ability and controlled aggression. The game came to an end with no further score and Fleet still pushing forward and the whole team's attitude a million miles from that on show in the first half. Hopefully a lessoned learned and a fresh start against Heston on Saturday.

Friday 2nd Aug 2013
Abbey Vale 0 - 2 Fleet Star
This game was brought forward to the Friday night as it was Gatehouse gala and Dumfries show and after the request both teams agreed to the switch. After a hard start to the season both teams were looking for a confidence boost with a win, the first half was very even with the low sun and wind causing both teams problems. Neither team really got going and neither keeper had anything hard to cope with.
Fleet came out for the second half and with the wind behind them saw Gavin Williamson run onto a through ball by Graeme Robertson within three minutes and slot the ball past Holt in the Vale goal. This spurred Vale into action who had some pressure which the Fleet team withstood. With ten minutes left Fleet replaced the tiring Williamson with McCutcheon and with his first touch McCutcheon lashed the ball past the helpless vale keeper from a headed flick by fellow sub Mason. Fleet saw out the final minutes of the game giving them their first win and moving into fourth place even if just for a night.
Team: Hutchison, Muir, Robertson, Picken, Lord, Johnson, Durham, Wilson, D McKie, Williamson, N. Thomson,
Subs: Muirhead, McCutcheon, C. McKie, Muirhead, Mason.

Wigtown 5 - 1 Fleet Star
Fleet star travelled to Wigtown on a wet Wednesday night and were given a lesson on football by a well organised and talented Wigtown side. Fleet had the confidence of Saturdays draw but had to fight hard to keep the Wigtown team out in the first half hour. A great save from Shaun Hutchison along with some great defending kept the front three of Wigtown at bay. Fleet also had chances, Williamson blocked a clearance by the keeper but the shot deflected past the post, McColm had a shot just over the bar and D. McKie hit the post from thirty yards. The break through came on thirsty five minutes when a through ball evaded the Fleet defence and a run by Jones from the Wigtown midfield saw him run clear curling his shot into the Fleet net. Wigtown took even more control of the game and started to play the ball about making the Fleet team chase all over the park. The second half started in a similar fashion and Wigtown extended the lead when McHarry broke down the right and squared for an easy tap in. The third soon followed when a corned was headed home. Fleet now looked a little tired and Wigtown went further ahead when a great turn and run saw Picken slide in but unfortunately the ref pointed to the spot which was stuck away, making the score 4-0.
In the closing minutes of the game a great run by N. Thomson saw the Wigtown defender pull him back and the ref pointed to the spot. Thomson stepped up and stuck the ball into the net to make pull a goal back. Wigtown took the centre and from a through ball a poor defensive header allowed the Wigtown sub a chance to chip the Fleet keeper and complete the score.
Team: Hutchison, Muir, Robertson, Picken, Johnson, McColm, Durham, Wilson, D McKie, Williamson, N. Thomson,
Subs: Reid, McCutcheon, McKie, Mason, Lord.

Saturday 27th July 2013 - START OF THE NEW SEASON
Fleet Star 0 - 0 Saint Cuthbert Wanderers
Fleet Star started the new season with an inspired point at home to local rivals Saints. Fleet without Player of the Heston tournament Angus Brock (Injured) and new striker Corey Thomson (Work commitments) started the game and matched a new look Saints side man for man. The Fleet players looked a little nervous to start with and did not manage to get into the attacking passing game that we have seen throughout the pre season. Saints had the better of possession in the first half but were kept to distance shooting which Fleet keeper Shaun Hutchison was more than a match for. Fleet had the odd attack but again did not get enough support to their lone striker and the attacking midfielders were well marshalled by the Saints midfield.
The second half saw Fleet come slightly more into the game again however without a cutting edge but at the other end Saints again did not trouble the Fleet goal. The best chance of the game fell to Saints Striker Craig Rudd who from a cleared corner the ball was returned into the box, Rudd swivelled in the six yard box but saw his shot blocked on the line from Fleet's Elliot Johnson. Saints changed their formation and personnel to try and upset the well organised Fleet team but with no joy. In the dying minutes of the game Saints pressed for the winner but Fleets fitness allowed them to also break but no goals were forthcoming and a share of the points was the outcome.

Heston 0 - 1 Longtown Wanderers
Fleet Star 1 - 1 Heston (Corry Thomson)
Longtown W 1 - 0 Fleet Star
Longtown W 3 - 1 Heston
Heston 0 - 2 Fleet Star (Corry Thomson, Scott Christie)
Fleet Star 0 - 1 Longtown W
Angus wins player of the tournament at Heston festival as Fleet Star finish 2nd.
Fleet Star travelled to Maryfield on Saturday to compete in Heston's tournament and on arrival were told that Ayrshire side Minishant Amateurs had pulled out leaving just three teams and a change of schedule. Heston informed Fleet and Longtown that the new schedule would see each team play each other twice in 30 minute games with no half times. In the first game Longtown beat the hosts 1-0 with a header from a corner.
Heston now took on Fleet and found themselves behind after 1 minute when the Heston keeper dwelled on the ball allowing Fleets trialist Corry Thomson to slide in a hook the ball into the empty net. Heston fought back and as the Fleet defence moved deeper and deeper Heston sneaked in and from six yards beat Hutchison in Fleet's goal to equalise. C Thomson then broke through the Heston deference and was brought down in the box, however seen his spot kick saved by the Heston goalie and the game finished 1-1.
Fleet now took on the Longtown team who were becoming rather physical but the Fleet defence were holding firm. With seconds left in the game a free kick was awarded to Longtown just outside the Fleet box, a short pass down the line found the winger in space and as he crossed into the centre Fleet's Angus Brock headed the ball into his own net giving Longtown the win.
The second round of fixtures again saw Longtown beating Heston, this time by a score of 3-1.
Fleet again played Heston and C Thomson again produced good movement a finished well to put Fleet one up, This time Fleet looked composed and after several missed chances found the second goal when Scott Christie run through and finished with ease to make the score 2-0.
In the final game Fleet knew Longtown had already won the festival but produced a excellent display especially in the blistering heat however a long ball caught the defence out and a cut back found the on running midfielder who finished from six yards to claim 100% record for Longtown.
An excellent run out and good exercise for all the Fleet squad, Well done to all !!

FLEET STAR 2 - 0 JOLLY HARVESTER Thursday 11th July
Thomson, McColm
Fleet star played a third game in a week and it started to tell however again they came out on top. Fleet started the game giving their full squad the opportunity to get some valuable game time. The first half was an even contest with neither team creating many chances. Picken played his first game and looked solid at the back against the Jolly team who tried to play football in the stuffy heat.
The game came to light when Fleet made several changes bringing on Hogg, McKie and Williamson which freshened up the play. A through ball was met by Hogg who steadied himself before playing a wonderful cross to Thomson at the back post who just needed to connect nodding Fleet ahead. Five minutes later Fleet went two ahead when a short corner by McKie was met by McColm who shot past the goalie. The game petered out with both teams felling the heat and exertions of the game. Another victory for Fleet who now have several training sessions before the Heston Tournament on 20th July.
Team: Hutchison, Lord, Picken, Robertson, Brock, McColm, Christie, N. Thomson, Mason, Galloway, McCutcheon
Subs: D. McKie, Hogg, Williamson, Marshall.

FLEET STAR 3 - 2 MORTON THISTLE Tuesday 9th July
Reid 2, McCutcheon
Fleet Star continued their pre season with a game against Dumfries amateur side Morton Thistle who like to take South of Scotland scalps but went away from Garries park having played a good game but coming out on the losing side.
Fleet started the better side and settled well only to see a high ball misjudged by the fleet midfield and as some defenders backed off the others were caught underneath the ball allowing for the Morton striker time to take a touch and steer a shot into the bottom corner from twenty yards past the helpless Hutchison in goal. This setback dented the young sides confidence and for the next five minutes Morton had several other chances which the Fleet defence and keeper had to look lively to keep out. Fleet then settled back into their passing game and a good run from McColm down the right saw Reid tap in at the back post after a goalmouth scramble. This spurred Fleet on and five minutes later Reid again was on hand when a great shot was parried by the Morton keeper and again he made no mistake to put Fleet ahead. The last fifteen minutes of the half was even with both teams having good possession without creating clear chances.
Fleet made several changes at half time to give their full squad a run and a minute into the second half a free kick was floated into the Fleet defence, Wilson thinking he had a shout from his keeper ducked under the ball allowing the Morton striker a easy finish at the back post. Fleet recovered again from the setback and a great cross to the back post was nocked down and McCutcheon tapped in with the Morton players claiming off side. Fitness now started to tell as Morton only had one sub. Fleet had good possession in the final ten minutes but did not capitalise on this and the game finished 3-2 to Fleet giving them a second win.

FLEET STAR 4 - 1 PARK AVENUE Saturday 6th July
McKie (Pen), McColm 2, Stewart.
Fleet star started their pre season matches with a 4 - 1 victory. With half a dozen debutants in the squad Fleet took some time to settle into the new formation that the new management team asked them to play. Their opponents pressed the home side from the whistle and with the Fleet players trying to find their feet created several chances which Keeper Shaun Hutchison kept out with some fine saves. Fleet showed some good moves but support to their forwards was not there and the Park Avenue defence easily smothered out the attacks. Twenty minutes into the half Park scored the opening goal when a corner was not attacked by the Fleet defence and the ball bounced before being headed into the corner of the net. With rolling subs Fleet made use of their large bench bringing on several more experienced players and switching the position of others which seemed to give the new look Fleet team a confidence boost.
As the second half started they produced several sharp passing moves and started to get on top of the game. Fleet started to use all their subs and give everyone a good run out. Fleet looked a totally different more confident team in the second half and a through ball by Keiran Durham was taken by Jamie Muirhead who was upended by the Keeper giving Fleet a penalty. Davie McKie stepped up and made no mistake to tie the scores. The effort that the Fleet players had been putting in at training then seemed to be showing as the Park team seemed to be starting to back off the Fleet players who had a sharper quicker movement about them. Matthew McColm was started to cause the Park team problems down the left side creating several chances and winning corners from last ditch challenges. McColm was then rewarded when a great pass was collected and dispatched to put Fleet 2-1 up. The Park players heads now went down a little and Fleets fitness allowed them to continue to press and were rewarded with another from Matthew McColm and Craig Stewart run on to finish the scoring.
A good second hand performance which the players can hopefully take into Tuesday's game.
